Course Description:
Myofunctional Therapy has been part of the dental hygiene scope of practice for decades, but it has recently become one of the fastest-growing skills in the field.
This course offers an introduction to Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy. Upon completion, dental hygienists will be equipped to identify orofacial myofunctional disorders, enhancing the comprehensiveness of their clients' oral health assessments and adding complexity to their dental hygiene care plans.
Additionally, participants will gain a clear understanding of the next steps in deciding whether Myofunctional Therapy is an adjunctive therapy they want to further explore in their careers.
Learning Objectives:
- Learn to define what Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy is, who the stakeholders are within the industry, and its role in oral health
- Review and learn the anatomy relative to orofacial development.
- Learn to identify normal oral posture and the factors that contribute to orofacial myofunctional disorders. (OMD)
- Learn to screen clients with orofacial myofunctional disorders and identify the need for referral to other health care providers.
- Learn to identify the signs and symptoms of Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders
This 6-hour online course is a pre-requisite for the Full Myo Practical Program (30 hours)
