Course Description:

Have you ever considered owning your own independent practice?

Join Jennifer Cramer-Shein, IRDH, owner of two successful practices, to discover if Independent Dental Hygiene is an option for you!

Independent dental hygiene practice is an opportunity and option worth celebrating for many registered dental hygienists in Canada.  The ability to venture into the world of entrepreneurship as well as the ability to improve access to care for our communities is exciting.  Join Jennifer Cramer-Shein for this 3-week practical program to explore this opportunity in depth.  Jennifer will share from her real-life experiences of opening two Independent dental hygiene practices.

Through this 3-week program, you will learn about the rewarding opportunities, challenges you may face and some surprises you may encounter along this entrepreneurial journey.  You will leave with a strong step-by-step business plan to put your own dreams into action or to simply learn about the opportunities you have as a registered dental hygienist.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn the why and how behind Independent dental hygiene practice and how this can help improve access to care for our communities.
  • Investigate the regulatory body positioning and guidelines around independent practice.
  • Investigate the equipment and supplies needed as well as where to obtain them.
  • Discuss billing, the ODHA fee guide and the differences you will encounter in independent practice compared to a general practice setting
  • Discuss and investigate the equipment and lease hold improvements needed to set you up for success.
  • Explore the aspects of hiring and training staff as a new business owner.

Start to create a business plan that you can put into action with the guidance of someone who has experienced it first-hand.

*Please note: This is a Business Development course. You will need to check with your regulatory body if this can be used toward your QA Requirements.
