Course Description:

 

Myofunctional Therapy has been a part of the dental hygiene scope of practice for decades but it has become one of the fasted growing skills in the last few years.

 

This course is designed as an introduction to Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy. Upon completion of this course the dental hygienist will have the skills to identify orofacial myofunctional disorders to improve the comprehensiveness of a client’s oral health assessment and complexity of their dental hygiene care plans.

 

Upon completion of this course the dental hygienist will have a good sense of next steps in determining whether or not myofunctional therapy is an adjunctive therapy they want to pursue further in their career.

 

Learning Objectives:

 

  1. Learn to define what Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy is, who the stakeholders are within the industry, and its role in oral health
  2. Review and learn the anatomy relative to orofacial development.
  3. Learn to identify normal oral posture and the factors that contribute to orofacial myofunctional disorders. (OMD)
  4. Learn to screen clients with orofacial myofunctional disorders and identify the need for referral to other health care providers.
  5. Learn to identify the signs and symptoms of Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders

 

This 6-hour online course is a pre-requisite for the Full Myo Practical Program (30 hours)
