Course Description:
Peri-implant therapy is a growing part of the everyday clinical practice for the dental hygienist. Once the implant is in place, the majority of the responsibility for maintenance of the implant is entrusted to the client and the dental hygienist. Incorporating evidence-based protocols in prevention, maintenance and recognition of peri-mucositis and peri-implantitis is essential to the current practice of dental hygiene. Understanding how the process of care applies in implant dentistry is vital to how effectively we work with our clients to protect, preserve and restore oral health.
- Assess and monitor the health of dental implants with an evidence-based, five-step protocol
- Identify risk factors that affect implant success
- Recognize and classify peri-implant disease and conditions
- Implement evidence-based implant maintenance protocols
- Develop client-centred self-care programs to combat implant failure
