Course Description:

Do you know the who’s who in the world of bacteria?  Who is on the pathogenic invitation list and who is on the beneficial list?  Join Kerry and Beth as they dive into the intricate world of bacteria and the delicate balance needed to support symbiosis and optimal oral health.  We will discover the need for bacterial balance rather than complete eradication.  Much of our attention as oral health professionals has been dedicated to understanding pathogenic bacteria and their elimination.  Have we given enough thought into supporting the beneficial bacteria?  It is time that we shift our focus.  The complexities of oral health and disease requires a multifaceted approach beyond debridement exclusively.

Come and join us for a fun and interactive hands-on day of discovery around the adjuncts available to assist us in helping balance the ecosystem of the oral microflora.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the key factors involved in periodontal breakdown and the options available to help mitigate risks.

  1. Discuss the role of Oral probiotics in addressing bacterial populations and their impact on several aspects of oral health.

  1. Uncover how adding beneficial, strain specific probiotic bacteria present a new frontier in dentistry.

  1. Evaluate the science and literature supporting current adjunctive therapy recommendations.

  1. Review the strategies required to effectively implement patient specific care plans that respect the ecosystem of a thriving oral microflora.
